Ted Tsighis to Direct Alumni/Undergraduate Mentoring
We will admit no man who is not believed to be: a man of good character; a student of fair ability, with ambitious purposes, a congenial disposition, possessed of good morals, having a high sense of honor and a deep sense of personal responsibility. That is the standard by which young men are judged and then selected to join Sigma Chi Fraternity.
The criteria is applied by college students to college students and when done correctly, a diverse, dynamic group of high minded young men come together and share their lives. It begins in college and lasts a lifetime. Fraternities often receive a negative stereotype; sometimes justified, but more often not. When done properly an incredible experience is provided. Sigma Chi places heavy emphasis on a lifetime commitment to a set of ideals, to service, achievement and citizenship. A member, no matter the age, will not answer “I was Sigma Chi” but instead “I am a Sigma Chi”. This holds true from age nineteen to ninety nine.
The ideals of the organization are lofty and the young men, their families, their university and their community all benefit. Great emphasis is placed on selecting diverse men. Friendship among members having different temperaments, talents and convictions sharing a common believe in an ideal creates a stronger bond than friendship among like fellows.
In like spirit, the San Diego Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter has pledged to aggressively launch a mentoring program for the undergraduate Sigs in San Diego by local Sigma Chi alumni. At the helm is alumni brother Ted Tsighis. All the ground work is laid to make this a successful program, but now we need our Alumni Brother's assistance to make this program beneficial for our Undergraduate brethren.
Here are the Mentoring Program Guidelines:
- Alumni Brother is the driving force of the relationship, he is responsible for establishing initial contact and staying in monthly contact
- I will check in once initial contact has been made and then once per semester via email to check in with Alumni to see how their relationship is going.
- There are no reports to make, just the trust of a Brotherly Bond
- No loans or borrowing money of any kind
- Program is only available to Juniors as they hopefully have some idea of what career path they want to take and have some quality time to get to know their mentor
- Alumni is not t to express financial, reglious, political views or any wild parties or "hazing" that may have happened in your years
- This relationship is completely confidential
- If possible, the Mentor will participate in the Mentee's initiation
