San Diego Sig Alumni Welcome Kevin Faulconer
Council President Pro Tem Kevin L. Faulconer became Councilmember for District 2 in January 2006 after winning a special election. He was re-elected later that year by an overwhelming margin in the June primary election.
Kevin is passionately committed to guarding San Diego’s tax dollars and protecting our beaches and bays. As chair of the Audit Committee, he worked to restore the City’s credit rating and repair its credibility with investors, and he’s focused on bringing financial stability and accountability back to City Hall. In 2008, he took a lead role in drafting and supporting Proposition C, which passed with 67 percent of the vote. The measure ensures money generated in Mission Bay Park is invested there and at other city parks. He also campaigned in 2008 for alcohol-free beaches and bays.
Kevin works just as hard for the diverse group of neighborhoods he represents. In Downtown, he’s working to bring 10 years of planning to fruition with the start of construction on the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan. This long-awaited project, planned for the foot of Broadway at Harbor Drive, will add 1,700 trees to 24 acres of new park space, gardens and landscaped areas. He also is committed to providing more permanent housing for the homeless Downtown. Over in Point Loma, he vigorously supported plans for a 46-acre waterfront park. When fully completed in November 2009, NTC Park will be the second largest coastal park built in San Diego.
