george_sinksThe elder son of George and Ethel Sinks, and older brother to Bob, he was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 20, 1925. He graduated from both Miami University of Ohio and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, and served in WWII with the Merchant Marines. George's lifelong affiliation with Sigma Chi fraternity (Alpha, '46) started during his college years, and his love of the sea and sailing developed while serving in the Merchant Marines.

Back home, he wed Betty McGarry and had two sons - James and Kurt (Missy) - before relocating to Southern California, where two more boys - Charles (Lynn) and Grant (Jenna) - were added to his family. In California, George's love of sailing and the sea flourished. Since joining the Mission Bay Yacht Club (MBYC) in 1966, George spent nearly every moment he could either racing or cruising on one of many boats he owned during his lifetime, winning several national sailing championships along the way. George is survived by a second wife Barbara, his four sons, grandchildren Ian (Jennifer), Tara, Erin, Tyler, Michelle, Tucker and Scott, and great-grandchildren Riley and Reagan.
