About the Speaker
Shelley Zimmerman served the City of San Diego for 35 years, ultimately as Chief of Police. Her assignments spanned undercover operations, executive protection, large-scale event and protest management, field command, and community-policing outreach. As Chief, she advanced policies and tools such as body-worn cameras and gunshot-detection systems, contributing to historically low crime rates among America’s largest cities during her tenure. She holds a master’s from National University, a bachelor’s from The Ohio State University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (241st Session). For background on her recent remembrance and service travel, see “S.D.’s Former Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman Marched in Poland, Volunteered with IDF in Israel” (San Diego Jewish World, June 17, 2025): https://www.sdjewishworld.com/2025/06/17/s-d-s-former-police-chief-shelley-zimmerman-marched-in-poland-volunteered-with-idf-in-israel/
