Speaker: Speaker Cipriano Vargas (Founding Father of Sigma Chi at CSU San Marcos) Vista School Boardmember - Speaking on Leadership in Public Education

At 25, Cipriano Vargas is the youngest-elected member to serve on the Vista School board. As a product of Vista Unified schools, he recognized the challenges present in the classroom. More importantly, he identified and seized the opportunities that made him the first in his family to attend college.

Starting with high school, Cipriano actively participated in Character Leaders and Future Farmers of America. This lead to heavier involvement in college, including his role as V.P. of Operations for Associated Students, Inc. In 2012, the Governor of California appointed Cipriano to serve a two-year term on the CSU Board of Trustees; it is from this point that he fully realized his passion for education.

Following his degree in Sociology at California State University San Marcos, Cipriano moved to San Antonio to teach Kindergarten through the Teach for America program. Advocating for bilingual education, he taught Spanish while promoting a multicultural lens. This ultimately ties into his current position on the Vista School Board, by which this interview is based upon.
